How to use the Kilograms to Pounds Converter
- Type the weight in kilograms into the box.
- The answer in pounds appears straight away — no button to press.
- Where it helps, the tool also shows the weight in stones and pounds, the way body weight is often given in the UK.
- To go the other way, enter pounds and convert back to kilograms.
The formula
One kilogram is 2.20462 pounds. So the sum is: pounds = kilograms × 2.20462. For a rough mental estimate, doubling the kilograms and adding a tenth gets you close, but for luggage limits and medication doses, use the exact figure.
The kilogram value is your input and the pound value is the result. Stones sit alongside pounds in the UK system: 1 stone = 14 pounds exactly. So a result like 154.32 lb can also be read as 11 stone and about 0.3 lb over. To convert back, divide pounds by 2.20462.
Quick conversion table
| Kilograms | Pounds |
|---|---|
| 1 kg | 2.20 lb |
| 5 kg | 11.02 lb |
| 10 kg | 22.05 lb |
| 20 kg | 44.09 lb |
| 50 kg | 110.23 lb |
| 70 kg | 154.32 lb |
| 100 kg | 220.46 lb |
Worked example
Your scales show 70 kg, and a form asks for your weight in pounds. Multiply 70 by 2.20462: 70 × 2.20462 = 154.3234, which rounds to 154.32 lb. In stones that is 11 stone with about 0.3 lb left over, since 11 × 14 = 154. The same sum matters at the airport in reverse: a 23 kg baggage allowance is 23 × 2.20462 = 50.71 lb, so a case that weighs 50 lb on a home scale in pounds is just inside the limit — but only just, and airline scales have the final word.
Common mistakes
- Treating a stone as 10 or 12 pounds. A stone is always 14 lb. Getting this wrong shifts a body weight by several pounds.
- Using 2.2 for exact jobs. 70 kg × 2.2 gives 154 lb instead of 154.32 lb. Fine for a rough idea, risky when a baggage limit or a dose depends on it.
- Confusing pounds with ounces on small items. There are 16 ounces in a pound; a parcel shown as 2 lb 8 oz is 2.5 lb, not 2.8 lb.
- Forgetting the weight of the case itself. A “23 kg bag” at check-in includes the suitcase, which can weigh 3–4 kg empty.
Frequently asked questions
Q: How many pounds are in a stone?
Exactly 14. So 10 stone is 140 lb, and 140 ÷ 2.20462 = about 63.5 kg.
Q: How do I convert pounds back to kilograms?
Divide by 2.20462. For example, 154.32 ÷ 2.20462 = 70 kg.
Q: Why does my weight look different in pounds?
It is the same weight — only the unit changed. A kilogram is a bigger unit than a pound, so the number in pounds is always larger, roughly 2.2 times the kilogram figure.
